    I once heard that all animals go quiet and hide when an apex predator's nearby. I'd advice to do the same if you ever hear everything suddenly shut up in the middle of a forest. Maybe GTFO as quietly as possible.

    A thought …. The hunter CUT the chain to the ‘monster’ - meaning it was no longer tethered to the cave and forest. It could have reached the house at any point after the chain had been cut.
    Yet when he meets his mother later she still can’t reach beyond the point where the blind boys rope ends.
