    The book ending is different.*spoilers* Wen is accidentally shot and killed during a struggle for the gun and her fathers are told it doesn’t count because they didn’t willingly sacrifice her. One of them still needs to kill the other. They decide they aren’t going to sacrifice themselves for a god that wouldn’t accept Wen’s death as the sacrifice. They leave with Wen’s body to face whatever becomes of the world
