Maybe if they had kept it more ambiguous, this version of the story could've worked. Or at least have been less negative. I haven't seen this film (I didn't really have much interest to begin with), but doesn't the character that dies have a concussion? If they had kept it ambiguous on whether or not the end of days was real and this character wasn't in his right mind, this story could've been more of a commentary on blind religious faith - no evidence, no personal experiences of your own, just following what others tell you simply because of what they say. If you are commanded or threatened into joining anything, said anything is wrong. Flat out wrong.
I don't know, maybe that angle wouldn't have worked either. It is unfortunate when a movie has all the right ingredients but a bad overall outline.
Anyway, as a Satanic Ace I feel like it is my unearthly duty to proudly declare #FukGod, especially when he's being a vicious two-face down prick and tearing people apart.
I personally hated the novel because I don't like ambiguous endings. Life is full of them. I want my fiction to have clear endings. (That's also why I ended up not caring for My Heart Is A Chainsaw even though I enjoyed the book up until the ending.)

Also for my cheerleader ghost story a prebellum house on stilts too much?
#FUKGOD
I tried thinking what today’s movie looks like if you realise your protagonist has no reason to want to sacrifice themselves and that you’d written God as a bastard. But then I remembered Glorious exists. And I fucking loved Glorious.
So that’s my takeaway, Glorious rules and #FukGod.
Thank you for saving me time and many triggers
I'm really getting tired of Shyamalan's pattern of two decent movies followed by a string of disappointments, but now bringing back his "god being a dick is good, actually" from Signs feels like a good sing (pun intended and with every insult) to just drop his movies entirely, especially if this is the heavy handed symbolism he wants to peddle.
First off it being a canonical Christian idea is dubious depending on your particular faith & is often antithetical.
Also I'm not surprised that in this particular era of film production that the gay thing flew over they're heads unfortunately. At least the book sounds good, I feel bad for its fans.
Legitimately Good (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Split)
Polarizing/ Divisive-- you like it or hate it, there is no middle ground (Lady in the Water, The Village, Glass, Signs)
So Bad, It's Good (The Happening, Devil, The Visit)
Outright Bad (Knock at the Cabin, Old, The Last Airbender)

We all would've been burned alive if we had lived 500 years ago & thought this way. That's a terrifying thought! King James was extremely paranoid about demons & witches. He was also bisexual. Yeah, the man who oversaw the translation of the Bible was into men & was basically responsible for starting the witch hunts. He had a lot of innocent ppl killed in the most horrific ways possible. So I don't trust any book that he had anything do to with!
The book was better.
And yup. I'd have been pissed at the end. Sham-turdball does it again. I'm quite tired of the clinging to that Iron Age Fantasy Anthology indoctrinating children to lead their lives with self-gaslighting so the least of us can grab and hold power and don't have to do it themselves. #FukGod

Edit: Holy fuck! It's remarkable how Christians making movies about the apocalypse apparently can't help themselves and have to portray their god as a the most petty, cruel and abysmally stupid arsehole you'd ever have the displeasure to meet. I mean, at least that image is quite true to their source material, but how, after acknowledging that, they still think that worshipping that monster is somehow not worse than sucking Hitler's cock is beyond me. I'd be mortified if I believed that wanker existed.
Well, at least I could watch the rest of the video now without spoiling the movie. And you are correct that the end of the book seems much, much more adequate. And you should be antitheists, at least with regard to those Abrahamic religions. I know a couple of pagans who are cool dudes and don't seem to believe in any harmful stuff, but fuck Yahweh, Allah or whatever his followers want to call him! And fuck this movie!
Mostly both.
I'm sorry but I just don't like the guy. He had some good movies but also a bunch of flops, a fact he can't really accept.
Also he comes off as a douche in Interviews a lot of times.
Thx for the great, indepth review, love your content and you two together are always a treat to watch 😉👍👍
And it's not like Defiant endings are unheard of. Cabin in the Woods said that a civilization built upon mass sacrifice should not continue, and that made bank, didn't it?
Re: how they changed the 4 horsemen -- Malice, Nurturing, Health, Guidance? WTF is that. There are so many sets of 4 concepts they could have used. Upside, at least they didn't label one of the gay couple as Pestilence, which was my first thought.
Thanks for the review, and the comparison of American Gods. Gaiman gives me hope for modern pop fiction.
