I had a good enough time with this film. Overall a bit frustrated with the anticlimactic ending but some of that could have been my inflated expectations due to my experience with M. Night over many years. Thought Bautista and Rupert were fantastic. I’d give it a 3.5 of 5

My thoughts were on point with yours. The acting and filmmaking here were very good, but ultimately I felt like the movie didn’t have much to say about the scenario that was presented. When it ended I just thought “okay, that happened… now the movie is over.” Totally felt what you meant by the “Ahhh” or “A-ha” moment that wasn’t present here. I was invested in what I was seeing but by the end of it I felt like the story didn’t lead to a meaningful place. Much better than Old though.

I loved this movie! It’s one of my favourite Shyamalan films. The performances were great, the camera shots were brilliant, and to me it just told a very interesting story that always made you wonder who is right and who isn’t.

SPOILERS:

Movie was just okay imo. The scene that broke me was when they had Dave Bautista locked in the bathroom and they think he escaped through the window. But I'm sorry there was NO WAY he could have gotten out of a window that small. It took me out of the movie to think that Andrew would have believed it for a second lol.

Ended on a complete whimper. Incredibly dull and straightforward which is strange considering the movie is built up like it's some profound work of art

It was an alright movie. It wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t bad at all. And it kept me at the edge of my seat. I was stressed and anxious the entire time. And the acting was really good

This maybe an unpopular opinion, but Dave Bautista is an infinitely better actor than The Rock. Any comparison between the two is laughable.

Is it possible that he is trolling with us? The twist is that there's no twist lol. Or maybe, he doesn't want to be tied down to the same formula, and trying to shake it up a lil. Also, this is based from a book, though they changed the ending a little bit, so maybe in the beginning, he already imagined that it won't be a big surprise anyway, since a number of people already have an idea of the ending anyway, as it is based from the book. I did enjoy the movie, it is well shot, well directed, and every actors are amazing, no weak link with the actors, and very tense and suspenseful throughout the entire movie. I would even consider this as one of M Night's best movies, together with Sixth Sense.

Just got out of the theater. I’d say it’s good, not great. But definitely not bad at all. The acting was great. The suspense was pretty good. The message made sense. It had clear explanation and wasnt convoluted. And im glad the ending didn’t have a twist actually. It was pretty depressing though. And although it wasnt exactly entertaining at least it was serious to its themes. As someone who hadnt read the book yet, id say this is a good stand alone, and definitely one of M. Night’s better films and much better than Old in my opinion. If i were to rank his 14 films id put this in the #5 or #6 spot

7/10 for me

I thought this was really good. Shyamalan really is as good as he thinks he is sometimes. I appreciated him not overreaching even if it made the ending feel slight. Killer tension, interesting questions, great performances and I'm thinking about it even now. At least his best work since Split for my money. 8/10

Really enjoyed it the tension was there, the question of is this actually real.
I do wish that the couple had no idea either way if it was happening before they made their choice, and then the ending being they walk outside and the truth is revealed one way or the other and now they must live with that choice one way or another would have been a better ending.
Spoiler alert:
Like they decide not to do it and then go outside to see planes falling from the sky and the fires breaking out, but then thats just a vision that Eric sees so he makes his decision. Then Andrew and Wen walk outside after and see that it is stopping, dark clouds rolling away, fires stopping, etc. Showing that they made the right decision.
Here the tension is lost because they know it’s happening and you are just left with, can they actually go through with the sacrifice.

I really enjoyed it. The twist was completely unexpected. The twist was there was no twist. It was a beautiful way to throw us off lol. I like that it doesn't have that "satisfying moment" because it leaves us feeling the same uncertainty and emptiness that the characters are feeling.

If he had done an expected twist in this movie, people would've complained about it. There's even a chance you would've criticized the twist if it had one.

Sean, I also thought the actor playing Andrew looked like Eric Bana also lol

All the performances were amazing especially the husband character, Rupert grint character and Batista. Batista showed how he what's to be a true actor and I didn't expect this kind of performance from him. The premise is interesting and engaging. It's something different and new. I like how the reactions to interactions are believable and realistic with the conflict and questions that everyone is asking.
But overall the story and the characters aren't anything that great. Your going to forget it pretty quickly
