I mean I did like the movie in terms of acting. I could get over most of the holes in the story, but the BIGGEST issue for me is that the 4 horsemen were literally releasing the plagues. So if they didn’t kill themselves, nothing would have happened. But also if the 4 people “sacrificed” themselves, wouldn’t that have been enough to appease whatever was causing the end of the world? 4 random people murdering themselves for the world is more of a sacrifice than choosing to kill some one else you love.. IMO

It's incredible how profitable Shyamalan's last FOUR films were and this will be no exception. Five in a row within 7 years is amazing.

It’s definitely his most socially conscious thriller and was really tuned into the theme of echo chambers. That made it feel very contemporary for me and I thought the backpack and radio scene was beautiful. Just carrying on with those lost along the way; which if you wanted to really you can say all those lost were “the believers”. I liked it more than Old and I liked Old.

Those are both very interesting perspectives on the ending. While I agree that it would have made it really interesting if they left it ambiguous whether or not it was real, my interpretation was that the ambiguity in the ending comes with whether or not it was worth it. The ending directly challenges this concept of "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few," so we're left with an ending that leaves this family fractured forever. There's the promise of a better future, but was it really worth it? It's this way of showing how even the noble and supposed "right" choice to save humanity first can still be questioned as the "right" choice. As a result, I think the ending still allows for the audience to ponder whether or not they would have gone through with it, or if they would have the strength either way. I also ended up giving the movie a 7/10 because of some structural issues and instances of M. Night's usual problem where his dialogue over-explains, but the ending left me on a high note personally.

The book ends totally differently. Perhaps you two would be more satisfied with that ending…Thanks for the great review as always!

Dwayne Johnson is a movie star, but Dave Bautista is an actor.
Also good to see Rupert Grint back on the big screen!

Most definitely a recovery from Old imo.

Generous scores. The film was filled was so much tension, but the ending just wasn't it. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen the movie.

I don't know if this is a hot take but i think Batista is a better actor than Cena and The Rock

This film just felt really generic and straight forward imo.. left the theatre pretty disappointed.

This movie was death porn. No point, fake depth, and terrible rewriting from an interesting book plot. When you said “there’s nothing there” at 12:43, that’s emblematic of the entire movie.

Enjoyed the movie as a thriller. I don’t agree with people that wanted a message or a twist ending or the depressing ending and ambiguity from the book. I think people bring with them baggages when going to a Shyamalan movie. I am glad he moved away from the gimmicky ending for this movie.

This will feed all the religious based homophobes to see it as an allegory for how same sex marriage is destroying our society and ending it is the only hope for humankind. Yeah, just what we need as they are banning any mention of us in schools, banning books that mention us, call us pedophiles, etc. This offers nothing and didn't need to be made...other than be a Christo-fascist's wet dream.

SPOILERS

They needed to stick more to the book. The nurse does doubt the mission in the book and the entire ending is different and has the ambiguity you guys were talking about.

It was a popcorn film so I was not expecting it to be some Oscar contender.

It's fine for what it was. I actually like that it confirmed that they did avert the apocalypse. I'm not for ambiguous endings most of the time. Plus they are way too prevalent.

6.5/10.

I went to the film with a couple of people. To my disappointment they were focused on a conspiracy because of gay bashing. But it was clear to me that was in there to doubt what was obvious. Although I should have seen that there were 4 of them and this the apocalypse. Thus they were the 4 horsemen.

I think this is Shymalan's best movie since The Sixth Sense. It was beautifully acted and directed, I loved the score, and I was totally wrapped up in the execution of the story. The ending was perhaps a bit of a let down, but, unlike some other Shymalan films, I didn't feel it detracted from the emotional intensity of the film. If I have one bone to pick I would have called it The Cabin at the End of the World, the title of the book upon which it is based. I guess they changed the title because Shymalan made major changes to the ending. Makes me want to read the book.
