A family is composed by a father, a mother and their off-spring, bro.Two males (or females) trying to make a family is nothing but awful.Poor are those kids that grow up in messed up "families" like the one the movie tries to portray. There are only men and women in the world; there's also the mentally, I guess.Degeneration should be avoided and punished.

I was pretty excited for this movie, was slightly disappointed with it tho i found it very underwhelming simply because you can already see one of the two endings happening in your head so when it plays out you’re just like okay 👍

I like Knock at the Cabin because it was better directed than Old, which I wanted to be so much better. Am also a big fan of Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge. When you mentioned backlash about the couple being gay, I looked up the novel to see if they are also gay in the source material, and they are. I don't view including a gay couple to be anything more than an acknowledgement of how normalized such family definitions ought to be.

Have you seen the Academy Award winning movie Everything Everywhere All At Once (2018)??? If not, you are missing out. Not your usual "Hollywood movie". Most say it's their favorite movie as well as the most original. Also has Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Shortround from Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom making a BIG comeback, and Jamie Lee Curtis. They all won the Academy Awards for their portrayals. Again if you haven't you are definitely missing out.

something i really really liked about this movie is how Bautista moves as a character. the way he hugs the outdoor walls as he's scoping the house for a good way to break in. it makes the claustrophobia feeling set in and like the house is the only solid ground as the world crumbles around them.

In general Bautista does great but that is what stood out to me

You aren’t part of the problem. You are part of the solution. Just looking at people as people. Acceptance to the point of not taking anything into consideration for any reason is the cure for all cultural phobias. IMO

It's good... sadly, it dropped the ball at the end, big time. For some reason M. Night Shyamalan had to re-write the book's ending, and its pretty bad.

Couple of things... It's a Stephen King novel from 2019. Plus, if it's on Netflix, it has to meet R&I and DEI standards. So gay couple, Asian daughter and it's just a normal thing and checks all the boxes. Then I thought - this is an impossible situation for the gay couple. Gay couples are not usually practicing or even "believing" Christians, so how could they possibly make a Christian religious decision from these strangers (4 horsemen of the apocalypse)? It makes for a terrible premise. You're forcing non-Christians to believe in the New Testament on the spot and sacrifice a life for it. It would never happen. So I'm not sure what the story is trying to tell. If you're gay, you're not accepted into the religion in the first place but then they come along and ask you to sacrifice a life for them on the spot? And at the end when the sacrifice is made, are we to believe that Christianity was right and homosexuality is wrong? But then the message is that apocalypse stops because the gay couple's love was so strong? It would have made a better story if the couple were seemingly devout Christians. This would have been a story of putting their faith to the ultimate test. Just my 2 cents...

The problem with Shyamalan is that years of trying to create suspense and surprises made him the least surprising director of all time. It was obvious from the beginning that the four people were telling the truth, if not the film wouldn't even exists. It was as badly done a The Village : once I saw that box at the beginning, i knew how it would end, so watching the film was just waiting for the credits. Same here. I did liked his found footage like film with the kids and the grandparents, even though the plot was also obvious here. Shyamalan is like a bad magician.

What's frustrating about that tidal wave scene is all they had to do was have the news anchor say the footage was caught during a livestream. But I'm with you - I enjoyed this movie overall. And I read the novel, which leaves things much more up in the air. I was actually okay with this movie taking a side.

I watched this mostly bc of johnathan groff and Dave bautista. Honestly i watched this at 1.5 speed. It was okay. Apparently it changed the ending from the novel
While ur approach to the gay couple as just being normal is def not part of the problem or wrong or anything i do think theres potential to read the film as commentery about the stigma gay families face if u just like delve a bit deeper into the themes. Tho thats for an analysis not a review like u do C:

SPOILERS:

I would have preferred an ambiguous resolution perhaps one of the dads sacrificing himself because of his faith and not because of the proof crashing down around them, the flashbacks seem to serve only to show why that one dad was so paranoid and angry at the world, but I felt it lacked emotional weight even though I thought the performances were good, I enjoyed it but it's not a must-see by any stretch.

Wouldn’t it be more emotionally impactful if the couple was straight and the child their actual biological offspring?

I have no doubt a same sex couple can love a child completely, but there will always be lacking that genetic connection that’s usually stronger from mother to child.

I don't know what them being gay matters at all with the movie.
Also M night is ALWAYS in his movies somewhere, like Hitchcock.
M. Night also always has flashbacks, and also so does King, so it's pretty much expected.
