The film crew had to reach the suburbs of South Jersey and Philadelphia for shooting. The woods are situated in the towns of Southampton, Burlington, and Tabernacle. The movie director, M. Night Shyamalan grew up in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania. And it’s just north of Philadelphia. Therefore, he was quite familiar with the area since it’s really close to his hometown. Shyamalan admits the project is one of the most important ones in a long time.
The South Jersey region used for shooting is generally referred to as “The Pine Barrens”. The place is quite well-known and rich in history itself. Bodies from The Sopranos were dumped right here. Besides, one of its most popular episodes was filmed here and titled respectively – “Pine Barrens”. In addition, the place is known as the New Jersey Devil’s home. However, he is not going to appear in the movie.
Knock at the Cabin’s script is based on the novel of Paul Trembley. The book’s author also participated in the process of filming and shared some interesting facts.
